Being present can often be mistaken as being included, but they are actually two different things. Being present is about being there, inclusion is about belonging. It's been something we have often worried about. From soccer fields to classrooms, Hope shows what inclusion can look like and what it feels like when it’s more than just being there.

I'm Sorry or Congratulations
“I’m sorry…” These are often the first words you hear when you tell a person your child has a Down syndrome diagnosis. “I’m sorry”. It’s just 2 words and sometimes, it may feel like those are the best 2 words for that situation, but there’s plenty of other things you could say.
“I’m sorry” automatically gives a negative feel, like there’s something wrong. There’s nothing “wrong” with a child with Down syndrome. We should all celebrate these children as much as we do any other new child brought into the world.
All a parent really needs to hear is… Congratulations.
Here’s a little video I found recently, For the expectant parents of a child with Down Syndrome… let me be one of the first to say, “Congratulations”.
