I'm Sorry or Congratulations

“I’m sorry…” These are often the first words you hear when you tell a person your child has a Down syndrome diagnosis. “I’m sorry”. It’s just 2 words and sometimes, it may feel like those are the best 2 words for that situation, but there’s plenty of other things you could say.

“I’m sorry” automatically gives a negative feel, like there’s something wrong. There’s nothing “wrong” with a child with Down syndrome. We should all celebrate these children as much as we do any other new child brought into the world.

All a parent really needs to hear is… Congratulations.

Here’s a little video I found recently, For the expectant parents of a child with Down Syndrome… let me be one of the first to say, “Congratulations”.
